Organization and Operations

NanoTerasu is operated through a public-private regional partnership framework. This includes:

  • The National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (QST), which is the main institution responsible for establishing the facility and acts as the national governing body.
  • The Photon Science Innovation Center (PhoSIC), representing the regional partnership.
  • The Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI), which is involved in promoting public use under the Act on the Promotion of Shared Use of Specified Advanced Large Research Facilities.

To address cross-functional matters such as operational planning, safety and facility management, information security and data management, and public relations, two main bodies have been established:

  • The NanoTerasu Steering Committee, which deliberates on shared issues.
  • The NanoTerasu Secretariat, which coordinates and executes shared administrative functions.

In addition, other regional partners—Miyagi Prefecture, Sendai City, Tohoku University, and the Tohoku Economic Federation—contribute through collaboration and cooperation.
