Predicting Gas Diffusion in 10 Seconds from Nano-CT Images at NanoTerasu — Toward Optimized Material Design for High-Performance and Long-Life Fuel Cells —

A research team led by Dr. Shota Arai (Project Assistant Professor) and Associate Professor Takashi Yoshidome from the Graduate School of Engineering at Tohoku University, together with Associate Professor Yuki Takayama from the International Center for Synchrotron Radiation Innovation Smart (SRIS), has developed a novel visualization and analysis technique.

By combining non-destructive nano-CT imaging using X-ray ptychography developed at NanoTerasu with analysis based on manifold learning, the team established a correlation between porous structures and gas diffusion coefficients. This approach enables rapid prediction of gas diffusion coefficients from structural data.
