Guidelines for the Use of the NanoTerasu Trademark
The “NanoTerasu” trademark and the facility’s logo mark, both of which represent the 3GeV high-brightness synchrotron radiation facility NanoTerasu (hereinafter referred to as “the Facility”), are valuable assets jointly owned by the National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as “QST”) and the Photon Science Innovation Center (hereinafter referred to as “PhoSIC”). We kindly ask that you use the Facility’s trademarks appropriately in accordance with these guidelines.
1. Use of the “NanoTerasu” Word Trademark
[General Guidelines]
The use of the word “NanoTerasu” is expected to be widely disseminated and appropriately used under the government-industry-local partnership framework. While we aim to minimize the need for permission procedures, we ask that usage be managed appropriately according to the categories below to avoid any confusion or devaluation of the NanoTerasu brand.
Since NanoTerasu is jointly owned by QST and PhoSIC, both organizations hold the rights to its trademark. Therefore, any use that may mislead others into believing that NanoTerasu is a facility operated by any entity other than QST and PhoSIC is strictly prohibited.
If deemed necessary, we may inquire about your usage history of the Facility’s word trademark.
If QST and PhoSIC determine that the usage is inappropriate, you will be required to cease using the trademark.

[Use in Commercial Activities]
If you intend to use the “NanoTerasu” word trademark in the name of an organization, institution, product, or service within a commercial business, you must obtain permission.
However, permission is not required when using the “NanoTerasu” word trademark in advertisements or descriptions of products and services in commercial businesses.
In all cases, please clearly state that QST and PhoSIC own trademark and ensure that the use does not imply any endorsement, partnership, or recommendation by the Facility of your products or services.
[Use in Public Interest Activities]
Government agencies do not need permission when using the name “NanoTerasu” in the titles of systems or programs.
Additionally, no restrictions apply when using the name to identify the Facility in research presentations, media reports, Facility introductions, Facility usage promotion, or other activities that serve the public interest.
However, please make an effort to state that NanoTerasu is a facility jointly owned by QST and PhoSIC to foster an accurate understanding of the Facility.
2. Use of the Facility’s Logo Mark Trademark
The Facility’s logo mark trademark may not be used without explicit permission. Submission of a “Trademark Use Permission Application” is required.
Please fill out the necessary information in the “Trademark Use Permission Application” form and submit it via email to the contact email address below as an attachment.
We will review your application and notify you of our decision within approximately two weeks.
If permission is granted, we will send you the “Trademark Use Permission Application” with a permission number, the logo mark trademark data, and the “NanoTerasu Logo Usage Guidelines.” Please use the logo mark in accordance with these materials.
If QST and PhoSIC determine that the logo mark trademark is being used inappropriately, they may revoke the permission at any time.
