On July 10, Ms. Yuka Miyazaki, Director of the Industry-University Collaboration Office, Innovation and Environment Policy Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and her delegation visited NanoTerasu.

At the visitor hall, Mr. Kawakami, Director of the NanoTerasu Secretariat, provided an overview of NanoTerasu, followed by Mr. Niibori, Vice President of the Photon Science Innovation Center (PhoSIC), who introduced the Coalition use program.

The delegation then viewed the beamline equipment installed in the experimental hall through the observation windows.

A research group led by Mr. Naru Okawa, a graduate student at the Graduate School of Engineering, Tohoku University, and Professor Yukio Takahashi of the Synchrotron Radiation Instrumentation Research Center (SRIS), has successfully achieved non-destructive three-dimensional visualization of high-aspect-ratio etched holes by combining X-ray ptychography with computed tomography (CT) using the high-brightness tender X-rays available at beamline BL10U of NanoTerasu, the 3 GeV Advanced Synchrotron Radiation Facility.

This technique enables detailed, non-destructive observation of the three-dimensional internal structure of high-aspect-ratio etched holes, which are essential components in next-generation 3D NAND flash memory devices, and is expected to contribute to the development of advanced structural evaluation methods for semiconductor manufacturing.

The delegation then toured the experimental hall under the guidance of Dr. Takahashi and Dr. Niibori, Vice President of PhoSIC.

On June 19, a delegation led by Mr. Shigekazu Matsuura, Deputy Director-General of the Minister’s Secretariat (in charge of coordination between the Higher Education Bureau and science and technology policy) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), visited NanoTerasu.

On June 19, Mr. Ichiro Takahashi, Director for Science, Technology and Academic Policy Strategy in charge of Institutional Reform and Surveys, Science and Technology Policy Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and Ms. Nao Fujii of the Quantum Research Promotion Office, Basic and Fundamental Research Division, Research Promotion Bureau, MEXT, together with their delegation, visited NanoTerasu.

At the NanoTerasu meeting room, Dr. Takahashi, Director General of the NanoTerasu Center, provided an overview of NanoTerasu, while Dr. Seino, Vice President of the Photon Science Innovation Center (PhoSIC), introduced the Coalition Use Program. Following the presentations, Mr. Kakuta toured the experimental hall under the guidance of Dr. Takahashi, Dr. Seino, and Prof. Matsuda of the University of Tokyo.

A research group led by Group Leader Seiji Sakai of the Research Center for Quantum Materials and Functionalities, Takasaki Advanced Radiation Research Institute, QST, in collaboration with the University of Hyogo, the Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI), Institute of Science Tokyo, and NTT Corporation, has successfully developed, for the first time in the world, a practical material that enables rewriting of magnetic memory records (electron spin orientation) solely by laser pulse irradiation.

Results have been published from hair care research conducted by Rohto Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., focusing on the internal structure of hair. This study highlights the phenomenon of “reversion of waviness” and presents findings from analyses of hair internal structure using NanoTerasu.
