Development of a New Magnetic Memory Material Controlled by Light — Toward the Realization of Ultra-Fast, Energy-Efficient Next-Generation Memory —

A research group led by Group Leader Seiji Sakai of the Research Center for Quantum Materials and Functionalities, Takasaki Advanced Radiation Research Institute, QST, in collaboration with the University of Hyogo, the Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute (JASRI), Institute of Science Tokyo, and NTT Corporation, has successfully developed, for the first time in the world, a practical material that enables rewriting of magnetic memory records (electron spin orientation) solely by laser pulse irradiation.
